Countries experiencing inevitable population decline (see my post Population Lie) are attempting to fool the world and themselves in to thinking nothing is wrong. They will be able to fool most people for the short-run.

Economies will be destroyed by declining populations in those counties which borrowed from non-existent future generations for their unearned lifestyles. The standard of living will actually rise in agricultural and mining economies that depend on plenty of usable land when there is less and less competition for that land. This is why you are seeing inflation in places like Russia where you will see deflation in the future.

The “American System” of high protectionist tariffs, corporate subsidies and a central bank run by politicians is not a conservative system. Lincoln idolized Henry Clay and his Whig Party, and spent over 20 years in politics supporting Clay’s American System. Alexander Hamilton was the first major American politician to advocated this system. It could not be further from the free-market conservative position.

The purpose of the American System for the Whigs and then Republicans was to maintain power indefinitely. If you can print money to do your dirty deeds and then favor wealthy business donors, such as the Republicans did with the railroad companies after the Civil War, the idea is that you can never lose your political power.

Conservatives HATE political power.

Margaret Thatcher is today being blamed for the economic crisis because of the “selfishness” of her policies from 1979 to 1990. Yet the fact is that public spending (health and welfare) rose 32%. Her sin was to simultaniously increase the private sector at an even faster rate, making public increases less in comparison to private increases. She helped the country that her opponents had almost succeeded in destroying. Wealth and freedom are not in the interest of collectivists.

There is no reason to rail against the Federal Reserve because it is a secret conspiratorial entity. Of course it is secretive, but the case must be made out in the open against the statism that informs the Federal Reserve. What we are working against is an evil ideology, not some scary group of men in a back room. The goblins are all over your TV screen; stop pretending you do not know who the clear culprits are when it comes to taking away your liberties. This is obvious, it must be fought.

The Federal Reserve will end when we no longer except the premise of statism. Ending the Fed will do nothing at all if the disease of statism is still rampant. The Fed is just the symptom; it is not the first central banking institution and would not be the last so long as the evil ideology of statism is allowed to run freely.

Ayn Rand stated in Atlas Shrugged that if you want to know when a society vanishes you must “watch money.”

She called paper money a “mortgage on wealth that does not exist.”

This is a paragraph from Francisco’s Money Speech:

“Whenever destroyers appear among men, they start by destroying money, for money is men’s protection and the base of a moral existence. Destroyers seize gold and leave to its owner a counterfeit pile of papers.”
